Ageing in North Queensland Symposium

In November 2016, Robert Schmucker, Senior Architect at Planpac attended the Ageing in North Queensland Symposium 2016 at James Cook University.

The symposium by TRCOTA and JCU explores the issues around ageing in North Queensland.  The two-day event consisted of presentations and panel discussions by ageing experts from varied backgrounds and experiences.

Keynote speaker JCU Senior Lecturer Dr Robin Ray presented “Making choices about my ageing within the Community.” She reported that 92% of seniors live in private households and the trend is that seniors want to age “in place” at home. Where they can stay connected to the community.  JCU Senior Lecturer, Dr Janice Lloyd presented “Multi-Disciplinary Innovations in Aged Care” and put forward the role the human/animal bond has for seniors and assistance animals for aged care dementia patients.

Dr Betty McLellan’s gave an inspiring presentation during the “Brewing and Stewing Session: Taking Great Ideas Forward” by saying that the elderly have history, wisdom and experience over the younger generations.  She went further by saying seniors must think boldly, speak loudly and act widely.

Planpac staff are encouraged to attend industry events to stay current with the latest innovations.
